Once upon a time …
… there were two girls with peculiar interests. Let’s call them Kaja and Pia.
Kaja and Pia grew up in separate parts of Norway. Both with their noses buried in the seaweed at all available times and with an annoying urge to tell everyone around them about their discoveries. Time passed, the girls grew up and earned their academic credits in barnacles and polychaetes. They remained happily unfamiliar with each other until one day when they bumped into one another at a conference in Trondheim. Pia in a worn-out shorts with a skateboard under her arm and Kaja in a blazer and pointy shoes. Some would call it a coincidence, others a carefully planned scheme.
No matter what you believe, the result remains the same; a scientific coalition and a mutualistic symbiosis.
In the following year they spent the time trying to figure each other out. With Kaja’s love for structure it didn't take long before Pia’s creative chaos was written down on paper. Today, the result is a network of biologists all over Norway ready to answer all of your questions, including the ones you never knew you had.
Our goal is two-fold:
For the biologists we want to create an arena for sharing knowledge and experiences, practice and support each other while simultaneously give “up and coming” biologists a network and a stepping stone to start a career
For everyone else out there we want to spread our knowledge through activities, for example a trip to the beach, and lectures. We believe that you protect what you love, so we want to introduce everyone out there to your new favorites; nudibranchs, polychaetes and luminescent sharks!
Kaja and Pia on that fateful day in 2018
As the ocean was our starting point, there is naturally a majority of marine biologists. However, the long term goal is to embrace all fields within biology and be able to offer trips to swamps and forests in addition to the ocean.
We are still figuring this out, but with joint biologyforces all over the country the future is looking pretty bright and we hope you will join our adventure.
Hugs and kisses from the founding (floundering?) mothers;
